I was reading Gentoo Menu System proposal at
http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/glep/glep-0016.html which mentions a goal to
patch various window managers to support the freedesktop.org Menu
Specification, Icon Theme Specification, and Desktop Entry Specification.

I help maintain pkgsrc as a NetBSD developer and I also have been
starting a Linux distribution that uses the pkgsrc build system and
specifications. We currently don't have method for automatically adding
menu entries when installing new software packages.

Does anyone know about blackbox supporting these freedesktop.org
specifications? Any patches? (I didn't see a patch from gentoo for this.)

Any other thoughts on having a common method for menus (and maybe icons
too)?
