I've found it only happens the first time you type into a given window instance of Firefox. Since I'm running nightly versions of Firefox and CVS of Blackbox I wasn't sure which was at fault. Though I do run Firefox nightlies on a few other boxes and don't see the problem on them.
As already meantioned, refocusing the window corrects it.
Though - alas - firefox 0.9 appears to be even worse in this area, I keep on seeing the hint window appearing and vanishing and in the example I've just tried I had to refocus the firefox window once for each character I typed... :-(

I can't seem to reproduce this at all. I built firefox from source using CVS (tried the 0.9 binarys but they wouldn't run) and things appear to be working fine. I can type in any text box without any problems. I'm noticing other things, but they are fire-fox problems, probably caused by my building it, dunno.
