Replying to myself yet again:

The current CVS build again has the slit problem. The slit appears
initially at the top left instead of center left, and gkrellm doesn't
position itself with the slit. When witching to other workspaces the
gkrellm display does not show up.

No one else is seeing this? If so, I guess there is a gkrellm bug of
some type, but why it only manifests itself now I haven't a clue.
