I used to have a little program that would tell you whether a modifier was
stuck down (from X's perspective, not the keyboard's). That's what you're
seeing here... X thinks the modifier is still asserted.
Switch to another VT, then switch back. That should clean it up. Of
course, the actual fix is to replace the shoddy KVM. :)
