FWIW, the auto-hide thing he mentions with regards to the slit seems
to be a blackbox bug. When you turn auto-hide on, you are necessarily
not in the slit; the auto-hide timer is only triggered when the mouse
leaves the slit. I don't have the newest source handy, otherwise I'd
write a patch; it should be sufficient to synthesize a mouseOut on the
slit whenever auto-hide is toggled.
