modify your  $HOME/.xinitrc file
mine looks like this:
    sleep 1 && wmclock &
    sleep 2 && wmfire -C 2 &
    sleep 3 && wmtop &
    sleep 4 && wmmon -s &
    sleep 5 && mount.app &
    sleep 6 && Mixer.app &
    sleep 7 && watchswap &
    sleep 8 && bbmail &
    sleep 9 && bbpager &
    exec /usr/local/bin/blackbox

the last line is the important one and is relevant to your question.
