No it doesn't work. This is what I have found:
command + mouse double click: shades/unshades a window (if the click is on
the window bar).
command + alt + click: the same as above.
No other combination of command, alt or ctrl with mouse-click works on the
desktop, which is what I need for the blackbox menu to appear.
