killing blackbox

is it the way my system is set up, or is it the way blackbox performs?

i try to kill blackbox and start another window manager, only to be thwarted
when x kicks me back into xdm. is one of my .xsession/.xinitrc not correct, or
is this the way it is supposted to happen?
