Sounds like you might be running blackbox at a text console.
When you log in (that is, when you type your name and password), what
does it look like? Does it look similar to this:
login: <You type your name>
Password: <You type your password but it doesn't appear>
Or does it look like a box in the center of the screen, with colors or
patterns in the background?
After you log in, what do you do next?
