Q: Turning off slit bar?

Hi,

I'm on this list as I'm new to bb and trying to figure most thinsg out. The
menus are... well, I'm getting there. My main question is: Can one remove
the slit at the bottom and if so, will windows max to the full screen?

Also, I have set the slit to TopLeft, BottomRight, etc, to no effect. It
stays center.

This is default bb Debian 2.2
