Perhaps you mix up toolbar and slit. The toolbar is enabled by default and the
only way to get rid of it is to patch bb. On the other hand the slit only
appears if you start a wmaker dockapp or one of the bbtools like bbpager
with the -w (withdrawn) option.

there is a hide-toolbar patch for 0.61.0 (you have to apply it manually to
newer versions of bb).
