A couple of things to check for...

1) make sure that you only edit the .blackboxrc file when bb is not
running.  when bb exits, it automatically overwrites any changes to that
file, efectively `recovering' to the last known-good config.

2) make absolutely certain that your menu syntax is correct.  any
hanging curlies or braces will make bb use that default three-selection
menu.
