Hmm, I hadn't seen bb-appconf before you mentioned it, but
I got it and here are a few of the differences:
bblaunch was written to run a program, wait for it to
appear and then change it's attributes, bb-appconf uses a
predefined list of window names/classes and changes the
attributes of any window that is in that list.
bblaunch is coded from scratch in C so it doesn't end up with
a lot of extra fluff from copied blackbox code. You'll notice
that the bb-appconf package is 16 times larger than bblaunch.
bblaunch supports all of the blackbox window attributes
(including stacking order, though that currently doesn't work
in blackbox) and offers full control of their options.
Meaning, for example, that one can choose any of the decor
states and not only enable or disable decor as in bb-appconf.
bblaunch only runs for a few seconds to launch the application
and modify it. It exits after the launch, unlike bb-appconf
which is constantly running.
I certainly don't mean to degrade bb-appconf, but you asked. ;-)
If it seems that I am biased on the side of my application,
I probably am--so please excuse me if I described any aspect of
bb-appconf incorrectly. My personal opinion is that it is more
convenient to just do something like:
bblaunch -d 0 aterm
instead of having to configure bb-appconf and have it always
running waiting for a certain predefined aterm to start. You,
of course, may not agree. In the end, it is just a different
ends to the same means and I encourage everyone to try both
pieces of software and choose the one that suits them best.
I feel I should point out that it is not one of the bbtools
and is not designed to possess the same look and feel that
they do. If the name causes any confusion, please let me
know and I will gladly consider another.
