The restart command of Blackbox merely restarts Blackbox. However, (and I
really don't know how to do this) since Restart can take an argument for a
program to start instead of restarting Blackbox, you could write a script
that could kill X and restart it in double/single head mode.

I'm not too sure, but I hope it helped.
