This is one of the 5x.x -> 6x.x changes which I think was really
worthwhile, for several reasons. First, it makes it easier to resize
windows. For a lot of windows, you had to move the window before resizing
it. It is now much easier to resize windows. Also, the new handle layout
keeps decorations in the vertical direction only. Before, one would often
have to squeeze down the bevel size to keep that handle small enough so
that smart placement could put two terminals side by side on 1024x768.
This problem is eliminated now. I think the reason so many user
interfaces, not just window managers, let you resize from both lower
corners is that it makes sense. A sensible interface is far more
important than a distinctive look. This isn't discounting the old layout,
it has its own particular advantages, namely an easy to use handle for
moving the window. I just find this a change for the better.
