Personally, theres 2 ways which I'd like to see one of implemented.
Either the first letter of the menu item's name is automatically "hot", or
the menu file uses a special character (_ or & or something) to denote the
next letter as "hot".
When a "hot" key is pressed, if there is another item with the same
letter, then the focus is moved to that item. If it is the only one in the
given menu, then it is executed.
Both of these are pretty standard i think and have been done before, so
maybe we can improve on the idea somewhat, but I'd be happy with either of
the above ways.
