Ok I'm new to Blackbox so please bear with me if some of these questions
seem trivial. Been doing a ton of reading and it just seems to get more and
more confusing :) I keep finding more and more apps that lead one into the
other and I'm left wondering if I really need some of them. I find myself
installing and uninstalling so much over and over again its making my head
spin. I started with the basics and installed Blackbox only. Then I got
into all the bbtools. I installed bbdate and bbtime, and then I found out
thru reading the list archive that I could get my date and time to show in
the toolbar which is fine with me. So why would I need bbtime and bbdate?
I installed bbsload, but then I saw gkrellm. So do I need bbsload, I mean
what does it do that gkrellm doesn't? Then I noticed that gkrellm has a
mail monitor. So why do I need bbmail and what does it do that gkrellm
doesn't (Yes I know gkrellm is only a monitor)? Same deal with bbweather?
I'm guessing that the ppp monitor on gkrellm is only a monitor but I have to
ask can it launch ppp like bbppp? And if so why do I need bbppp? I also
noticed that my toolbar allows me to toggle thru workspaces and windows with
the arrow buttons on it. So why do I need bbpager? What does it do that
the toolbar doesn't? I'm a minimalist, but I sometimes tend to fall in love
with bulky apps when they really deliver what I need (like gkrellm). BBkeys
is about the only thing left I actually understand why I need it. I saw
some neat ideas for future versions of bbappconfig (like having the
iconified app representations in the pager instead of window
representations), but from reading the documentation on it it seemed to me
that the only thing its good for is launching an app on a certain desktop
(aren't there other ways to do this without bbappconfig?), launching an app
without a title bar (maybe I'm too novice to know why this would benefit
me?), or making an app on launch sticky (which I still don't think I
completely grasp.) What EXACTLY is sticky? If it's supposed to mean that
the window stays put it doesn't work because I can move my sticky windows
all over the place. BBappconfig from what I have read also allows you to do
some things with styles which comes in at around 45th place on my list of
importance. I know, I know I'm making it sound like the dreaded feature
bloat. I really don't mean to. It's a fine line isn't it? :) I just want
to know that what I have will suffice without finding another app every time
I turn around that will replace the ones I JUST got done installing. I
think after trying all the tools so far that I am narrowing it down, but I
keep finding another tool or app that does the same thing better or I find
out that the same thing can be accomplished without even installing an app.
BBtime BBdate for example, I just wanted it to display the date and time
somewhere and I come to find out Blackbox all by itself already does this,
just not by default. Can someone enlighten me?
