any program that doesnt have a shell control interface (such as the fifo
mentioned) would benefit from such a capability, which is why i'd
suggested it. since i'm the author of the mp3 player i use i can see
about adding in a fifo/arg interface to it, but it's likely that there
are other programs which could benefit from this rather than be
modified. i think i'd also argue that redirecting a key press event to a
particular window would use less resources than spawning a shell to run
a command, but realistically i the resources required are so small that
i doubt it'd make much difference either way. this has at least given me
some ideas into how to make this work for me without modifying bbkeys
which was part of my goal anyway.

if anyone else has ideas for or against this idea (or other applications
that could use it) i'd still be interested in hearing it.
