Eterm is easy to make transparent.  Open an eterm and do Ctrl + Right Click 
(at least in v. 0.9).  It will give you a little pop-up menu that you can
use to turn transparency on and off, as well as set the pixmap, color,
tint, etc...  If you want to make this permanent, then open the menu again
and select "Save Settings" (this last bit you have to do as root unless you
have write access to your Eterm config files).
