Hi, I've been on this list as Gino Peregrini. However, I've begun having some weird problems with that account, so I subscribed with this address so I could receive postings. I don't know if this topic fits this list, but here goes:
I realized yesterday (10/14) afternoon, that I hadn'been receiving email for [EMAIL PROTECTED] I checked fetch.log and found that a number of messages had been downloaded from the server. But I couldn't find those messages anywhere. Normally, bbmail would alert me that I had new mail. /var/spool/mail/gino was empty, as was any other folder I could think of where the messages might have gone. Here is the log for one of those messages: [Message # 1] From: Peter Szekszardi <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> [Message # 1] Subject: bbkeys alternate config file [Message # 1] fetched (36 lines 1205 characters). Mon Oct 15 13:34:50 2001 [Remove # 1] Message #1 was removed on the remote server. Mail was appended to mailbox folder /var/spool/mail/gino. As you can see, the log says that all the right things were done. Here's what my setup was: I was running Fetchpop as a daemon to check mail and download it, removing it from the server. BBmail would alert me, and then Pine would acquire the new mail, unless I got it first (with Pine or Mail). A simple process. It had been very reliable for awhile. Friday, I started using the slit for bbmail and bbweather. I added bbsload, bbpager, and a few WM dockapps (clock, moon calendar, cd player). I wrote bbstart to open these when I opened bb. It was after making these changes that mail began to vanish. I killed Fetchpop. The problem continued. I uninstalled Fetchpop and the problem has continued within bb. I used Gnome for a little while this morning and got two or three messages. I restored some apps in the slit, without bbmail, or, of course, Fetchpop. (Yes, I do have Fetchmail; it's not running, although I may use it.) After restoring the slit--with bbweather, bbpager, wmMoonClock, wmCalClock, wmCdPlay--the problem recurred. This loss of mail occurs when my account is closed. I was gone this afternoon, with my account off. When I logged in, I found that the problem had happened again. I have removed the slit entirely. I am using Mozilla Mail for both accounts now. I don't know for sure if that will work. I'm sorry for a long posting, but I wanted to give enough info that maybe somebody would be able to suggest what has happened. Would the WM dockapps be a problem? bbpager? (I like that, BTW.) I run RH 7.1 on an Athlon AMD 686. I have a 56k dialup connection. If anybody has any helpful ideas, I would appreciate them.
