I've just installed Blackbox having been an fvwm2 user for some time.
I was recommended it because it is extremely lightweight and my first
impressions are that this is true - there is a noticable
responsiveness increase over fvwm2 on this P166. I really like what
I've seen so far. As well as the speed improvement it doesn't look
like its based on an very early version of motif!
However, as an fvwm refugee, I'm finding the changeover from true
paging to virtual desktops difficult to handle. I have the bbpager
package running and this provides some of the functionality I'm used
to. I can no longer drag a window directly between two workspaces, but
I can live with dragging its representation on the pager. There are
some features I would like to see in the pager - perhaps they're
already in there. It would be nice to be able to click on a Workspace
in the pager and jump to that workspace. I'm not sure how this would
conflict with the current setup where all three buttons are allocated
to doing various things with *windows* if you click the pager. Is it
configurable? Lines like:
!** change mouse button action,
!** button 1 = left mouse button, 2 middle, 3 right etc.
!** you can define mutiple functions to a mouse button, like raise &
focus

bbpager.windowRaiseButton: 3
in /etc/bbtools/bbpager.bb suggest it is but I'm not really sure of
the edits I need to make and can't find any relevant documentation.
On a related matter, I'm used to jumping about the Desktops with
keyboard shortcuts which I have managed to get working to some extent
(Alt+Left = next Workspace, Alt+Right = previous Workspace). However,
in fvwm I was used to being able to use all four direction buttons and
them moving me relative to the way the pager represents the desktops
relative positions. For example, I have bbpager set up in a 3x3 grid
for 9 Workplaces like this

4 5 6
7 8 9
What I would like to do is, for example, be able to get from 2 to 5
without pressing Alt+Left twice but rather pressing Alt+Down. The
bbconf GUI configuration tool allows me to set keybindings either for
"Desktop Navigation" or "Desktop Navigation (through bbpager)". I
would imagine the through bbpager one was the one I wanted to set up
but, when I set the shortcuts nothing happens; bbkeys' lock thing
flashes to acknowledge I've pressed a shortcut but I don't change
Desktops.
Perhaps thats enough for now. I did try looking in the FAQ but got
related questions but not exactly this. BTW the documentation links on
blackbox.alug.org are 404.
