I can only see the grab button code changing. So, just to satisfy my curiousity -- do you use a xmodmap file or adjust your keys in some other way? Do you use a standard pc104 keyboard in standard qwerty mode or do you have another type of keyboard? Perhaps it really isn't this, but as you said nothing else changed between pre2 and 3 that affects this. If you adjust your keyboard in any way, I would like to see your xmodmap or equivalent file.
