Autosetting background

In my .xinitrc, I have:

        bsetbg <image here>
        bbkeys -i &
        exec blackbox

Unfortunately, my blackbox theme then overrides my choice of image.
Ideas on how to get around this, so that I can automatically set my
background image on X startup?
