Isn't the grab because blackbox needs to draw resize lines on the root window foreground? Then if blackbox would implement opaque resizing a grab wouldn't be necessary. I think other ways to prevent the grab (which also prevents other windows from popping up during the grab) are possible as well. Happy hacking :-) BTW blackbox CVS works well for me.
