I would recommend the use of FancyLauncher, its can be a little confusing to
setup to your liking (icons, due to hardcoded paths); once it is setup I
found it very easy to use and to administer; its even better with a good
icon set to use (either KDE or Gnome).

However, ROX is also a terrific program; but FancyLauncher is designed
exactly for the purpose you've described!
