John,

> How do I change the color and transparency of my xterm window?

For color, use something like:

xterm -fg red -bg yellow &

You can find the color names in your rgb.txt file (maybe at
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb.txt).

You can read the docs with:

 man xterm

Regular "xterm" doesn't support transparency. You can try aterm, rxvt with
-ip switch or other apps.

Read the man pages.

This mailing list should be fine for mostly blackbox related discussion

Use google to find X and blackbox FAQs.
