The recent alpha series attacked this type of workspace crash directly.  Check
the patch/feature request trackers, someone may have ported the wheel mouse
patch to 0.65.0 beta1.

If you want to see the bug grab 'dance' from the test_code module.  It
does lots of rapid workspace changing.  Crashed blackbox in about 20 seconds. 
Now it doesn't and generates enough X events to slow the system to a dead slug.
