It sounds like QS is somehow grabbing the Cmd key, but then it's odd
that Cmd-N works.  What other commands do/don't work (that use the
command key)?

I personally use *Option*-Space for QS, because Cmd-Space is taken by
Creative Suite apps, and Ctrl-Space for Spotlight.  If you can get
used to it that would be a workaround.
