Default seach mode

Qs doesn't recognize VLC as existent, when i put the music folder in
the 1st field, and i type v or vl in the 3th field. (Vlc position is
in my applications folder)
i've always to set up  manually seach mode-> filder catalog. Any ideas
how to set the default seach mode ?
