Oops, I think I posted my reply to the author only.  Do me a favor and
post my reply to the whole group if you could.

In summary, to access the "drawers" in Preferences>Catalog>User and
thereby change the folder depth at which Quicksilver searches specific
folders (Especially Desktop, which has a default depth of only 1), you
have to click on the small "i" button in the circle at the bottom
right of the Catalog preferences window.  Once the drawer opens, you
must first select "Attributes" and "Create a copy", which opens the
"Custom" tab (the default settings can't be altered).
