Answering my own question for the archives: Locate the catalog entry that contains the type of thing you’re interested in, which will be “Entry Name (Catalog)” and run the “Search Contents” action. This brings Quicksilver back with nothing selected. When you start typing, you will search only items in that catalog entry. You can optionally create a trigger that does “Search Contents” on the entry. Note that this doesn’t work well for “parent” catalog entries that have multiple entries underneath them.
