I was having the same problem, and it was because the url I put in my catalog wasn't formatted correctly. Here is how it looked when I copied it from Firefox: http://translate.google.com/translate_t?text=***&langpair=zh-CH|zh-TW#
See the | character toward the end? That's what caused the problem. After changing that character to the equivalent "%7C", it worked and my second panel in QS became "Search For..." instead of "Open URL". Sorry I don't really have the right vocabulary to explain what I changed, but see if your URLs contain any offending characters. I would also recommend finding the searches you want to use on this list: http://docs.blacktree.com/quicksilver/web_search_list and copying them from there to QS. It seems pretty comprehensive.
