Same problem here.

Comes from Safari 5 update... I'm not sure, but it seems that the new
version changes the rendering of HTML elements for other applications
like Mail. This black box element that comes is like an HTML <div>
with the same look as a widget. When you hover it, you can see a close
cross appear on the bottom left...

Don't know how to solve it, but it's REALLY annoying!

Simplest and quickest way would be to downgrade to Safari 4...
