very strange. If I were you I'd check that the 'applications' item in your catalog prefs is checked and indexing the right stuff (click the 'i' in the bottom right hand corner) Also, when you do have your app at the top of the list (e.g. terminal) click the little circle to the left of its name from the drop down menu and choose 'Set as Default for 'T'' or whatever letter you want.
It sounds like these apps are only getting indexed because they're in your 'recent items' list or something similar, and QS is only indexing that.
