I've tried setting Firefox's behavior to open to blank page and open
to home page and it reverts to the respective default behavior when I
launch a link when Firefox isn't running yet. I searched and found
someone had the same problem but they weren't able to find a solution.

For what it's worth, I don't have the same problem on my 10.5.6
machine running an older version of Quicksilver and Firefox.
