"Get current selection (internal) -> "Assign Abbreviation"

is there a reason why the "assign abbr" action comes up after I use
the 'get current..." command?
because when I try to assign an abbr. to a block of text for use as a
clipping or snippet or whatever it doesn't seem to do anything...
am I missing something with this?
just curious.
