I suspect that my problems were caused by corruption of the
plugins.plist file. One evidence is the fact that even after asking QS
to clear out some unused plugins, I found them being retained in the
plugins folder. Also, the preferences showed incorrect version numbers
for the plugins after I had updated them using the new repository at
qsapp.com. In fact, the plugins section of the preferences is still
acting queer because it is not showing the installed updated version
of the core support plugin as well as sometimes not showing the full
list from blactree.com.

The remote hosts plugin might have caused problems but I did not
install it because I do not need it. I don't want to queer up the
setup right now in the middle of the work week but will maybe try out
substitutions when I get a break during one of the weekends.
