have you taken a look at possibly using *Precipitate *(link<http://code.google.com/p/precipitate/>) for this? I've been using this great pref pane app for a while now and it works behind the scenes to index my Google Docs and include them in my Mac's spotlight index.
The project has not been updated in a while but it still works pretty nicely from what I've experienced.
