The files written to /private/var/log/asl are log files. If the logs
are getting that huge that quickly, you need to read them to figure
out what is causing the problem, and then fix that problem. I won't
say that it can't be Quicksilver, but I haven't heard of QS causing
that much logging. A little bit of Googling turned up the suggestion
that this can arise as a result of a rare bug in Time Machine on
Leopard.
