Oh, I see what your problem is. You don't even need to bother creating a QS trigger when you use the service. The service is instead of a QS trigger.
In any application that supports services (Finder, Safari, whatever), go to the Services submenu in the application menu; in there, select Services Preferences. Then assign a key command to the Send to Quicksilver service (or the Get Current Selection (Internal) service, which does the exact same thing but has a confusing name). Now just press that key command, and off you go.
