Thanks Patrick.  Suits me fine now that I remember that the ⌥ key reveals 
hidden files.  It's arguable as to whether an app's package contents are 
'hidden' in the strict sense of the word and so I simply wonder if providing 
the functionality to novice users would be beneficial.  Then again, would 
novice users think of using such a thing?
