I’ve taken several trips around the Web to try and work out what’s going on here, and it seems that support for CardDAV contacts from Address Book in third-party software is very variable. Most applications (including Apple’s own pet, Bento) just pretend they don’t exist. Some, like Alfred, can see that they exist (at least when there are cached metadata records for individual contacts in ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Sources/[UUID]/Metadata, but then can’t do anything else with them. However, at least two applications from JNSoftware <http://www.jonn8.com/>, Dialectic and JABMenu, treat CardDAV contacts as if they were stored locally.
