To answer your question, you’d go to the Catalog section of the Preferences and
add a new “File & Folder Scanner” entry. The info panel that comes up allows
you to set parameters, including the scan depth. You can also view the scan
depth for existing presets in the catalog, but you can’t change them. To change
the depth of a built-in entry, go to its Attributes tab and copy it, disable
the original and change the settings for the copy (which you'll find under the
Custom section).

Having said that… you almost never want infinity and the reasons have been
pretty well covered. Maybe you just want to increase the depth for
`~/Documents` by 1 or 2 or something, which should be fine.

As others have said, yes and anyone who’s tried it has regretted it. :-) Just
tell Quicksilver about the stuff you want to get to frequently. If you find
something is missing, add a Custom entry for it. The previously mentioned
updated Spotlight plug-in will allow for very powerful customization, but often
all you need are a couple of additional File & Folder Scanner entries.

**Most importantly**: I think a lot of users get hung up on wanting to index
too much because they don’t realize you can get to pretty much everything, even
if it’s not directly available in your catalog. Once a folder is selected, you
can navigate into it using / or →, then continue searching within the folder
and optionally drill down even further using /. So, just add a few important
top-level folders to your catalog and from there, you can reach down to the
rest.

Other tips:

  * ⌥/ will make hidden files appear when you go into the folder.
  * You can get to the top level of your drive by holding down / for half a
second or so.
