I have no answer for the OP, but wanted to report the same problem.
Sounds like a legit bug.

Maybe relevant bits:

OS X Version 10.8.2
Processor 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7
Chrome: Version 24.0.1312.52
QS: ß71 (3942)
Google Chrome Plugin: 1.1.1 5/4/2012

The Google Chrome Plugin version actually has me a little confused
since I did notice that it was included in the recent update so I
would imagine it should have a later date.
