Have you checked the documentation for the plugin to make sure you are using the right action? Go to the plugins preferences, select the plugin and click the '?'
The actions for searching online are "Search For..." and "Find With..." The 1st takes a Web Search (e.g. Google (UK)) in the 1st pane and text in the 3rd pane.
