As an audio producer, I have a bunch of Ableton Live analysis files all over my hard drive (nothing I can do about this).  I added ".asd" to the "Exclude types:" panel of the Catalog options, but when I refresh the desired folder, they're still indexed.

I suspect Quicksilver is matching on either type code or UTI, not extension, so it only works with “known” types. For example, if you type “pdf”, the system recognizes it and changes it to show “Portable Document Format” and those files are excluded.

So it’s a bug. I’ve added this example to the comments on [#1469].
