What should I learn to be able to modify an interface plugin like Cube

Could you describe the steps in some detail to someone who already has
C
programming notions?
For an existing interface, it should be as simple as building
Quicksilver, then building the plug-in.
Start with http://qsapp.com/wiki/Building_Quicksilver
I think the plug-in is currently using private C APIs (which is probably
why it broke), but the things it does might be possible using Core
Animation, so I’d start with its documentation.
You might get the attention of someone with more experience over on the
dev list, but probably not.
