Unless I'm missing something critical in how to replicate this I've never 
experienced it either and I both use "." so often I changed my shortcut to 
"⌘." so that putting it into text mode is as easy as possible and switched 
to El Capitan as soon as the first beta was released. 

Have you guys tried logging into Guest to see if it happens on your 
machines with effectively a clean install of QS - i.e. default settings and 
no plugins?
