The mnemonics not getting updated will be fixed. The options being
grayed out should only happen if you dismiss the interface (clearing the
search) and call it back up. That’s unlikely to change.
As a short term measure I would like to make a couple of new
folders I have added to my system default when I type the first couple
of
letters of the folder name by editing the Mnemonics .plist. I've taken
a
look at this in PlistEdit Pro (I've edited pref files quite a lot over
the
years) but I can't figure out how to make the folders in question the
defaults. Anyone help??
Going back to 1.4.2 for now is going to be the easiest way to get this
set up. If you really want to do it by hand…
In the plist, under abbreviation, add the desired abbreviation (if it
isn’t already there) and make the value an array containing the path
(as a string) to the target folder.
Under implied, find the folder’s path or add it as a new dictionary
key if it’s not there. The value should be a dictionary of
abbreviations and the number of times each has been used for that
folder. Add your desired abbreviation there too as the key and make sure
its number is higher than that abbreviation’s numbers anywhere else.
(Or just artificially inflate it.)
The stuff under abbreviation says “the abbreviation X has been used
for A, B, C”. The stuff under implied says “the object A has been
accessed with the abbreviation X N times”. The latter has a lot to do
with how results are ranked (and thus the default).
