Thanks very much for both the replies. I'm not sure if I might be confusing "tags" with "colour labels" I can achieve what I want by right clicking on a file and choosing whatever colour tag I want from the contextual menu. I can achieve the same thing in QS by highlighting the file in Finder, invoking QS and typing set tags in the second pane. The third pane has previously prompted the various colours available in the contextual menu but now it will only prompt green, and no amount of encouragement will persuade it to offer red or yellow, etc.
I tried the script referred to here: http://www.uponmyshoulder.com/blog/2010/a-keyboard-shortcut-to-change-files-colours-in-the-finder/ But while I got that to run it didn't actually do what I want. Any more advice you have would be great.
